My work is inspired by and makes use of pigment from the natural world.I feel the need to be in a landscape or chosen space, cup it in my hands and carry it into my paint studies and paintings.

I love the visceral, addictive qualities of paint , especially oil paint. It seems to breathe, push, mark time and tell its own story. I just happen to be there holding out for the sense of place that I encountered.

It's important to me that the viewer sees the process of the painting and can peer into areas where decisions are exposed, and surface tensions erupt.

Hegel said that ‘One sees in painting that which is active in what drives us’ For me, this is a kind of co-existence of paint and the experience of place.
